Understanding Merit List Compilation & Normalization
When competitive examination results are released by bodies like State Bank of India (SBI), candidates should understand how final selections and cut-offs are derived:
1. Multi-Shift Score Normalization
In examinations conducted across multiple shifts or testing days, raw scores are normalized using standard statistical equating (e.g. Equipercentile method). This ensures no candidate is advantaged or penalized due to variation in shift difficulty levels.
2. Category-Wise Reservation Roster
Cut-off marks are prepared strictly according to category vacancies (UR, EWS, OBC, SC, ST, ESM, and PwBD). Candidates qualifying without any relaxation are placed in the Unreserved (UR) merit quota as per statutory reservation guidelines.
3. Standard Tie-Breaking Criteria
