Understanding Merit List Compilation & Normalization
When competitive examination results are released by bodies like CBSE, candidates should understand how final selections and cut-offs are derived:
1. Multi-Shift Score Normalization
In examinations conducted across multiple shifts or testing days, raw scores are normalized using standard statistical equating (e.g. Equipercentile method). This ensures no candidate is advantaged or penalized due to variation in shift difficulty levels.
2. Category-Wise Reservation Roster
Cut-off marks are prepared strictly according to category vacancies (UR, EWS, OBC, SC, ST, ESM, and PwBD). Candidates qualifying without any relaxation are placed in the Unreserved (UR) merit quota as per statutory reservation guidelines.
3. Standard Tie-Breaking Criteria
When two or more candidates secure identical aggregate marks, commissions apply sequential tie-breaking rules: (a) higher marks in core/subject-specific section, (b) senior candidate in age, and (c) alphabetical order of candidate name as registered.
Mandatory Documents Required for Subsequent Stages (DV / Skill Test)
Shortlisted candidates must assemble original documents along with self-attested photocopies for upcoming Document Verification (DV), Physical Tests (PET/PST), or Interview rounds:
- Class 10th Certificate / Marksheet (Proof of Date of Birth)
- Qualifying Degree / Diploma Marksheets & Passing Certificate
- Valid Caste / Category Certificate (OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST in prescribed format)
- Valid Government Photo ID Proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, Passport)
- Printed Copy of Online Application Form & Fee Receipt
- Recent Passport-Size Colour Photographs (matching application)
