1. Indian Railways Apprenticeship Mandate & Long-Term Career Benefits
Foundational technical trade training under North Western Railway with statutory employment quotas.
The North Western Railway (NWR), with zonal headquarters at Jaipur, spans a vast railway network connecting Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and Haryana. Through Notification No. 04/2026 (NWR/AA), Indian Railways is imparting structured one-year shop-floor and locomotive maintenance training to youth under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
20% Level-1 (Group D) Horizontal Quota
Under Ministry of Railways directives, Course Completed Act Apprentices (CCAAs) trained in Railway establishments are granted 20% horizontal reservation in all open-market Level-1 (Group D) recruitments conducted by Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).
1/3rd NCVT Marks Weightage in CBT

5. Selection Methodology: Transparent Merit List Formula (No Written Test)
Mathematical formula utilized by RRC Jaipur to compute candidate merit rankings.
🧮 Mathematical Merit Percentage Calculation
Selection of Act Apprentices is conducted purely on the basis of a composite merit list prepared by taking the simple average of percentage marks obtained in Matriculation (Class 10th) and ITI:
• Tie-Breaking Resolution: In case two or more candidates score identical composite merit marks, the candidate older in age will be ranked higher. If dates of birth are also identical, the candidate who passed the Class 10th matriculation examination earlier will be placed higher in the merit order.
• Document Verification (DV) Call: Candidates will be called for Document Verification in the ratio of 1.5 times the number of notified slots based strictly on their merit ranking in the respective unit and trade.
6. Training Duration, Monthly Stipend & Service Conditions
Financial stipend and contractual obligations during the one-year apprenticeship period.
One (01) Year Duration
The apprenticeship training period is fixed for one year in accordance with the Apprentices Act, 1961 and the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992 as amended from time to time.
Prescribed Monthly Stipend
Selected apprentices are entitled to a monthly stipend as per Railway Board directives and State Apprenticeship rates (typically ranging between ₹7,000/- and ₹8,050/- per month depending on one-year or two-year ITI trades).
* Note: Engagement as an Act Apprentice confers no statutory right or guarantee to regular employment in Railways upon training completion. However, apprentices gain substantial advantages through the 20% Group D reservation quota.
