Common Deputation Rules & Service Guidelines

Before reviewing the post-specific qualifications, officers and forwarding authorities should note the overarching principles governing deputation appointments in the National Investigation Agency:

Analogous Post or Feeder Service

The candidate must either be holding an analogous post on a regular basis in their parent cadre or department, or have completed the prescribed period of regular service in the designated feeder pay level.

Maximum Age Limit of 56 Years

The maximum age limit for appointment by deputation shall not exceed 56 years as on the official closing date for receipt of applications (25 November 2026).

Period of Deputation (Tenure)

The period of deputation, including the period of deputation in another ex-cadre post held immediately preceding this appointment in the same or some other organisation of the Central Government, shall ordinarily not exceed three years.

Feeder Category Exclusion

Departmental officers who are in the direct line of promotion in their parent cadre are generally not eligible for consideration for appointment on deputation, ensuring internal promotional lines remain intact.

No Automatic Promotion or Lien Transfer

Officers appointed on deputation cannot claim promotion in the borrowing department (NIA). Their promotional prospects and permanent lien continue to reside with their parent cadre.

Proper Channel Submission Only

Every nomination must be forwarded by the competent cadre-controlling authority accompanied by certified APAR dossiers, vigilance clearance, integrity certificate, and penalty details.
